About WEC

Secretariat (staffing and headquarters)

The World Energy Council is headquartered in London. The Chief Executive and Secretary of the organisation is the Secretary General, who:
  • Manages the day-to-day affairs of WEC
  • Recruits new members
  • Ensures that current Member Committees are functional and that they represent the energy sectors in their countries
  • Reports to the WEC Chairman and the Officers Council
  • Serves as Secretary of the Officers Council
  • Submits and implements an annual budget and business plan, both of which are approved by the Executive Assembly, to help guide the Standing Committees in their work
  • Meets regularly with ministers, chief executives and other energy decision-makers throughout the world and uses the information from these exchanges to develop longer term priorities and future Congresses plans.
A staff of approximately twelve supports the Secretary General in the London office. For a list of staff responsibilities and an organisational chart/organigramme, click here . Four Regional Coordinators, based in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America/Caribbean carry out the work of the Regional Programme and support and assist Member Committees in their region for a 'bottom-up' focus.
