Which policies balance cost-effectiveness, social equity, environmental sustainability, security and effectively enhance the general welfare of the citizens of a nation or region? For energy businesses to invest in new technologies, infrastructure, and products while managing risk, they need clear and stable policy signals from governments. Governments and their publics in turn need assurances from business that the challenges can realistically be met and that there is sufficient corporate will to achieve balance while maintaining healthy regional and global economies.

The World Energy Council is a major and timely catalyst in bringing these issues to the forefront and in forging the roadmap and the institutional ties to make it happen. There is much to gain by examining the performance of specific countries and the good practices used by their governments and businesses.
