WEC Inside: Debrifing

WEC Ethiopia Event

WEC, partnering with ADEME France, and in collaboration with its Ethiopian National Committee,  convened a 2-day Workshop on Energy Efficiency in Africa at the Sheraton Hotel, Addis Ababa, from 29th to 30th June 2009, on the theme: "Energy Efficiency: What are the Priorities, the proper Policy Measures and the best Practices for Africa?".

The Workshop was attended by about 90 participants, from 10 WEC African MCs, WEC Romania, ADEME France, ENERDATA, the African Union, UPDEA, and Energy Efficiency Experts from African Ministries, Agencies, Universities, Regulatory Commissions, Electricity Utilities, and the Industry.

The Workshop provided a topical opportunity for the participants to discuss Energy Efficiency issues in Africa, and particularly, to define the priorities for Energy Efficiency improvements in Africa and to share views on how to establish and implement effective policy measures and concrete actions to enhance energy efficiency in the African Countries, as well as on how to create and develop an enabling environment for facilitating the financing and the uptake of energy efficiency programmes and projects in Africa.

The Honorable State Minister of Mines and Energy of Ethiopia, Ms. Sinknesh Ejigu chaired the opening and the closing Sessions. In the closing remarks she stated that "Most of instruments employed to achieve better Energy performance of different economies and the resulting effects produced have been wisely analyzed and presented to us.  WEC's particular effort in this regard is worth noting and commendable."
To conclude, she added: "The exposure to facts about energy efficiency over these two days, I believe helped us to renew our resolve and commitment and to rededicate ourselves to achieve breakthrough in our pursuit of creating energy-efficient economy and development in our renewable resource base."
