German World Energy Council member committee holds first Young Energy Forum

Legislative support for the Energiewende which includes greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions of 80–95% by 2050 (relative to 1990), and a renewable energy target of 60% by 2050, was passed by the German government in 2010. In this context the first Young Energy Forum organised by the German member committee of the World Energy Council, brought together young energy professionals for open discussions.

Japanese nuclear plants still standing after earthquake hits Kumamoto

Following the magnitude 6.5 earthquake that hit Kumamoto Prefecture in Kyushu, southern region of Japan on 14 April, World Energy Council Japan reports no damage was done to the five reactors of the two nuclear power stations in the region, the Sendai and Genkai Nuclear Power Stations, both operated by Kyushu Electric Power Company.

Iceland is the world’s largest green energy producer per capita and largest electricity producer per capita. Although the share of renewables in total primary energy is 85% in Iceland, which is among the highest in the world, the Icelandic policy is to increase it further in coming years.
