2016 World Issues Monitor - Global Key priorities

Innovation and shift to a low-carbon energy market biggest issues facing the world’s energy leaders 

Innovation and shift to a low-carbon energy market are the biggest issues facing the energy world according to the 2016 World Energy Issues Monitor. Launched in China, the 7th annual survey of over 1000 global energy leaders shows the climate of innovation amongst them, in response to the need to de-carbonise, opportunities from renewables and increasing risks in the midst of a commodities price storm.

World Energy Council: Bright future for energy storage

The new report ‘E-storage – shifting from cost to value: wind and solar applications’ is calling for the true value of energy storage to be recognised by taking into account both its cost and revenue benefits. The report also estimates that with the many new technologies in the pipeline, storage costs of energy will fall by as much as 70% over the next 15 years. Read more.

Energy security key according to 2015 World Energy Council Energy Trilemma Index

The World Energy Council launches its annual ranking of energy and climate policies. The 2015 Energy Trilemma Index registers overall improvements across the three dimensions of the energy trilemma. However, this year’s report shows that the challenges faced by countries to develop a balanced approach to their energy policy mean that only two countries out of 130 are achieving ‘AAA’ balance score.

The World Energy Council expresses “concern” about the progress and ambition of the climate talks

The energy leaders’ community is increasingly concerned about the slow progress and level of ambition in the negotiations ahead of the COP21 meeting in Paris. The World Energy Council issues today its messages to the Parties during its Executive Assembly in Addis Ababa affirming that the energy sector across the world is ready to respond to a strong signal from Paris to accelerate the energy transition.
