WEC Romania youth set sights on international collaboration

WEC Romania’s Future Energy Leaders (FEL) programme is looking to work more closely with industry and the international WEC community.

Mr Gheorghe Balan, secretary of the WEC Romania, said the committee is available to support youth projects and to help foster collaboration of Romanian Future Energy Leaders (FELS) with those from other WEC committees.

The comments were made at a meeting of the Romanian FEL programme on 11 October.

The event gathered 28 Romanian FEL members with 14, more senior professionals including Romanian ministry officials, academics, and energy industry executives.

Participants discussed how the Romanian energy industry can further support the younger generation of energy professionals.  This could be by imparting career tips, promoting international projects, and providing scholarships.

Elena Ratcu, Director of WEC Romania’s FEL programme, proposed future programme activities including a national FEL workshop in 2013 and an international one at FOREN 2014, plus engaging high school students on sustainable energy.

The Romanian FEL programme has been running for two years and has engaged more than 35 young energy professionals and students.
