The 2013 World Energy Issues Monitor is the latest of the WEC's annual assessment of the issues impacting the global and regional energy sector based on the views of the WEC's energy leadership community. 

It identifies the key uncertainties while highlighting the areas where action is most required to enable the sustainable supply and use of energy. For the first time, the study this year includes specific assessments of selected countries: Colombia, Germany, India, Indonesia, South Africa, and Switzerland.

To assist policymakers and the energy industry with pressing forward sustainable energy systems, the World Energy Council, in collaboration with project partner Oliver Wyman, publishes the report World Energy Trilemma 2012: Time to get real – the case for sustainable energy policy. Based on interviews with more than 40 industry CEOs and senior executives from across the global energy sector, the 2012 edition provides policymakers with the energy industry’s views on what is needed from policies in order to meet the challenges of the Energy Trilemma: energy security, social equity and environmental impact mitigation.

The report also includes the 2012 Energy Sustainability Index, a global ranking of 93 WEC member countries based on their performance on the three aspects of the energy trilemma. 

The Deciding the Future: Energy Policy Scenarios to 2050 study (EPS), published by the World Energy Council in 2007, indicated a number of impediments and threats to achieving access, security, and environmental sustainability of energy
around the globe. Many of those threats, or vulnerabilities, which need to be overcome by the joint efforts of policymakers, companies, and societies, involve the movement of energy.

Produced in cooperation with ADEME, this report presents and evaluates energy efficiency policies and trends in about 90 countries around the world. It reviews the impact of energy efficiency measures and highlights the trends and results of their implementation.

This report outlines the energy-related challenges that cities, particularly large and 'mega-cities', will face during the coming decades. It analyses the technical and policy actions that must be taken to meet these challenges and the role the energy industry and business can play in designing and implementing efficient solutions.

The WEC announces the release of an Interim Update to the Survey of Energy Resources via its website. This report provides updated and expanded tables, figures and country notes for the 15 main energy resources.
