Indonesia
The Minister of Research and Technology announced plans in January 2003 for the construction of Indonesia's first NPP. In September 2006, it was reported that before the end of the year the Government would select an agency to be responsible for implementing a project to construct two 1 000 MWe nuclear power reactors by 2016. These will be built on one of three sites in north central Java. Later in 2006, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources stated that construction of the first unit was scheduled to begin in 2010, with a view to its becoming operational in 2017. Indonesia plans for nuclear energy to contribute some 4 000 MWe to its electricity generating capacity by 2025.
