Solar Country Notes
Lithuania
The total annual potential of solar energy in Lithuania is assessed at 1 000 kWh/m2 and the technical potential at about 1.5 TWh per annum. So far, solar energy has been used for heating, hot water production and the drying of agricultural products.
The project, Development of the Lithuanian solar program 2000-2005 and its implementation into the World Solar Program, coordinated by the Institute of Lithuanian Scientific Society and funded by UNESCO, envisaged the construction of 0.05 MW of photovoltaic power equipment and 1 000 m2 of solar collectors.
The Lithuanian WEC Member Committee reports that the total area of solar collectors installed is currently about 1 000 m2, with total heat production in 2005 some 500 MWh.
