Wind Energy - Future Developments
The very rapid growth in Denmark and Germany, up to around 2003/4, has now slowed, but Spain, India, China and the United States are forging ahead and there are plans for further capacity in Canada, the Middle East, the Far East and South America. If the current growth rate continues, there may be about 150 GW of wind by 2010. The rate of development will depend on the level of political support from national governments and the international community. This, in turn, depends on the level of commitment to achieving carbon dioxide reduction targets. Although the technology has developed rapidly during the past 20 years, further improvements are expected both in performance and in cost.
