Botswanan Member Committee

The Botswana National Committee aims to promote sustainable energy development in Botswana, as a part of the WEC’s energy vision. As a member of the WEC network, the organisation is committed to representing the Batswana perspective within national, regional and global energy debates. The committee includes a variety of members to ensure that the diverse energy interests of Botswana are appropriately represented. Members of the committee are invited to attend high-level events, participate in energy-focused study groups, contribute to technical research and be a part of the global energy dialogue.

Mrs Mareledi Gina Maswabi is Principal Energy Officer at the Department of Energy, responsible for policy and strategies development. Prior to this, she was Head of Renewable Energy and Head of Bioenergy successively in the same Department. Mrs Maswabi holds a Master Degree in Science in Applied Environmental Microbiology. Over the years she spent working, she participated to trainings and obtained certifications in renewable energy, sustainable development and climate change from various institutions; including the Biogas Research Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture (BIOMA) in China, the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in India and the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) in Sweden. She was appointed Secretary of the Botswana WEC Member Committee in October 2011 as an added responsibility to her core business in the Department of Energy. Mrs Maswabi is also the focal person for Sustainable Energy for All initiatives in Botswana.
