The Uruguay National Committee aims to promote sustainable energy development in Uruguay, as a part of the WEC’s energy vision. As a member of the WEC network, the organisation is committed to representing the Uruguayan perspective within national, regional and global energy debates. The committee includes a variety of members to ensure that the diverse energy interests of Uruguay are appropriately represented. Members of the committee are invited to attend high-level events, participate in energy-focused study groups, contribute to technical research and be a part of the global energy dialogue.

Dr Ramón Méndez Galain has a degree and a PhD in Physics from the Universities of Grenoble, France and La Plata, Argentina. He has worked for 25 years in the Academy and has written more than 50 papers in peer reviewed journals and books, particularly the book “Energy”, published within the National Strategic Plan on Science, Technology and Innovation. He lectured in more than 30 Universities and Research Centers and has been a mentor of thesis students in different countries. He has been in contact with the national energy sector first from the Academy and later within the Public Administration. He is currently the Secretary of Energy of the National Energy Agency, from the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining in Uruguay, the unit responsible for planning and coordinating the energy policies. Alongside this, he is the President of ADME, the administrator of the Electric Market in Uruguay, Vice President of the IRENA Council (International Renewable Energy Agency) and he still acts as full professor at the University of the Republic.
