Regional Programme

The WEC Regional Programmes are designed to support the Overall objectives of the World Energy Council and effectively conducted in accordance with the triennial Regional Action Plans. The Programmes were initiated in the WEC work cycle 1995-1998 and have been constantly expanded until now.

The common objectives for the WEC in the regions are:

  • Focus the regional programme on addressing priority issues identified by regional members.
  • Select a few issues where WEC can offer unique expertise.
  • Develop a communications and outreach plan, including fora, seminars and workshops.
  • Raise WEC's profile as the leading industry-based energy organisation in the region.
  • Strengthen and expand the WEC Membership in the region.
  • Develop new partnerships, including Centres of Excellence for Sustainable Energy.
  • Support the marketing of the World Energy Congress in Montréal in 2010.
  • Support identification, development and implementation of demonstration projects.
  • Establish effective linkages between regional and global work projects.

The 2008-2010 Regional Action Plans are being developed under the leadership of the Regional Vice-Chairs using the "bottom-up" approach involving several rounds of extensive consultations with Member Committees in the region to identify regional priority issues. The Regional Actions Plans for Asia and Europe are now available, details for other regions will be published after the first regional meetings have taken place.

Enquiries related to the Regional Programme of the 2008-2010 Work Cycle should be directed to the  London Office for the attention of the Director of Regional Programmes, Yoshiaki Imaizumi.
