CRSES Renewable Energy Schools’ Programme

Addressing socio-ecological challenges.

The Schools’ Programme of the Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies (CRSES) of Stellenbosch University was developed to address the socio-ecological challenges and associated risks of climate change, as well as the need for a sustained supply of clean energy in South Africa. It is designed to tie into the new schools curriculum in South Africa which includes climate change and renewable energy. The Schools’ Programme also addresses two of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) defined by the United Nations – Goal 4: Quality education, and Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy for all.

The learning material empowers teachers to effectively facilitate learning about climate change and renewable energy and how renewable energy can counteract climate change.

Therese Lambrechts will present an overview on the development, implementation and value of the programme since its inception
