Ever wonder what decarbonization might look like in an energy economy based on a combination of fossil and renewable resources?  The opening session in the Energy Council’s event on May 10 will look into decarbonization initiatives from a variety of interesting perspectives, driven by policy initiatives, enhanced operating practices, and new technologies.  The Session Chair and panelists will address:

  • Reducing emissions from municipal electricity supply
  • Pathways to achieving the aggressive targets set by Alberta for the share of electricity generation from renewables by 2030 (30% in Alberta, 50% in Saskatchewan)
  • Outlook for the coal industry during the transition
  • “Lessons learned” from decarbonizing the generation mix currently in progress in Ontario
  • The role of innovation in accelerating the clean energy transformation.
