Ilona Välimaa is a 32-year-old environmental and energy professional from Finland. After years working with Baltic Sea and its protection, Ilona took her first steps in the world of energy production and renewable energy project development. Since that she has gained vast experience, varying from feasibility studies and EIAs to running wind power development projects. Currently, she is working in a large international consultancy company Afry (former ÅF and Pöyry) as an environmental expert for energy projects. She enjoys her work thoroughly as every day is a new positive challenge and chance to learn something new. Her special professional interests are offshore wind power because that lets her combine her passion for the sea with renewables and geoinformatics which is a practical tool with endless possibilities.
