Ilona Välimaa

Project Development Manager, Offshore Wind


Ilona Välimaa is a 33-year-old environmental and energy professional from Finland. After years working with Baltic Sea and its protection, Ilona took her first steps in the world of energy production and renewable energy project development. Since that she has gained vast experience, varying from feasibility studies and EIAs to running wind power development projects. Early 2021 she joined OX2, a leading European onshore wind power developer as a project development manager of offshore wind as the company is expanding from onshore to offshore. At her current position Ilona gets to combine both of her passions, marine environment, and renewable energy. She enjoys her work thoroughly as every day is a new positive challenge and she feels her work is meaningful and important.  

OX2 develops, builds and manages renewable power generation. OX2 has taken a leading position in large-scale onshore wind power over the past 15 years, having developed and constructed more than 2.4 GW of wind power in Europe. OX2 currently has contracted asset management services for 44 wind farms (2.28 GW). OX2’s mission is to lead the ongoing energy transition and promote a more sustainable future. OX2 has operations in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland, Lithuania and France. Its head office is in Stockholm, Sweden. Sales revenue in 2020 amounted to €510 million.
