My name is Pedro Ernesto Ferreira, master’s in electrical and Computer Engineering at Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).  More recently I have started a doctoral program at FEUP/MIT and INESC-TEC – PhD on Sustainable Energy Systems. My professional career begins at EFACEC and now I’m at Energies of Portugal (EDP) the utility of Portugal. At the moment, my position at EDP is to manage a team of 3 person that work by shifts on a centre of operation, control and monitoring of all Hydroelectric park of EDP in Portugal around 6500MW at full capacity.

EDP is a multinational, vertically integrated utility company. Throughout its 40 years of history, it has built a  presence in the world energy scene with a presence in 16 countrie on four  continents. The company has around 12.000 employees and is present throughout the electricity value chain and in gas commercialization activities. It is the third largest electricity production company in the world and nearly 70% of its energy is produced from renewable resources. EDP provides electricity to almost 10 million customers. EDP Group joined Euronext Lisbon in 1997 and EDP Brasil and EDP Renewables are also listed companies. Sustainability is part of EDP’s DNA and we are a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, having ranked 4th amongst utility companies and 2nd amongst electric utility company in 2018.
