Africa Energy Indaba: bigger and better

Posted on 1 February 2013

This month’s Africa Energy Indaba will be bigger and better than ever.

EVENTS_Indaba_2013The Indaba, to take place from 19 to 21 February in Johannesburg, is the WEC’s annual African regional meeting. The event is expected to attract more international and African participants, both in the form of speakers and delegates.

Organisers expect conference attendance to grow by at least 20% as has done in previous years.  Support from industry associations has also increased, from 6 organisations last year to 10 this year.

There will be more strategic participation from African countries. For example, the Zimbabwean Energy Council – the WEC’s newest African member committee – will be bringing a delegation and hosting a Zimbabwean Pavilion at the exhibition to showcase the country’s energy and business potential.

But the event’s growth is not in numbers alone.

To encourage and support the emerging role of women in the energy sector, all session moderators this year will be women.  And for the first time, the Indaba programme will include the Nuclear Forum.

The Indaba, which in the Zulu language means ‘gathering’, is presented by the South African National Energy Association (SANEA) – the WEC’s South African member committee – and supported by the African Union and the NEPAD Planning & Coordinating Agency.
