The international ‘Start Up Energy Transition’ (SET) initiative invites young and innovative companies around the world to apply for the SET Award 2019. As the deadline for start up applications is almost here, we have good news to share with you! An increased number of applications is expected in comparison with the 2018 competition. The amount of countries applying will be slightly bigger but, the diversity per region will be clearly improved, with Africa, LAC and MEGS standing out.

Start Up Energy Transition (SET) is an international platform supporting innovation in energy transition. It is comprised of the annual SET Award and SET Tech Festival.

The initiative brings together the most outstanding international start-ups in the field of energy together with key stakeholders in the energy sector. Through the help of our global network, we received nearly 1000 start-up applications from 88 countries in just two years. The submissions are evaluated by a prominent SME analyst group, which, together with the high-level jury (comprised of high-level individuals in the energy and climate sector), identifies the Top 100 list of the most innovative, savvy and promising start-ups. The high-level jury also selects the 15 finalists for the Award, who you can meet and engage with at the Tech Festival.

In the past two years, we had roughly 1000 applications from 88 countries. Some of our finalists have been very successful in developing their business. Every start-up dedicated to promoting clean energy is most welcome to join our initiative and apply for the SET Award 2019.”

The SET Tech Festival, featuring the pitches of the finalists, will take place in Berlin on 9 April, 2019. Christoph Frei, Secretary General of the World Energy Council, commented: “If we want to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals and climate objectives, we need to accelerate the energy transition through smarter policies, powerful new business models and technologies. SET identifies the best 100 start-ups and innovators to facilitate partnerships and support the transition.
