World Energy Council summit to gather 500 leaders and more than 20 ministers

Colombia’s global ranking in energy sustainability to be previewed at Cartagena event

 

17 October 2014, Cartagena, Colombia – The World Energy Council (WEC) and COCME, the WEC’s Colombian member committee, will be holding the Energy Trilemma Summit next Wednesday, 22 October, as part of its annual Executive Assembly, to take place from 20 to 24 October in Cartagena.

Wednesday, 22 October

Energy Trilemma Summit

  • 8.40 hrs: Tomás González, Colombian Minister of Mines and Energy, will give a special address on Colombia’s energy sector.
  • 9.00 hrs: Joan MacNaughton, Executive Chair of the WEC’s World Energy Trilemma, will be previewing Colombia’s position in the annual country ranking of energy and climate policy. This announcement will be ahead of the formal launch of the Energy Trilemma Index on 24 November in Washington DC. The Energy Trilemma Index is the world’s most comprehensive annual ranking of countries (129 countries) on the sustainability of their energy and climate policies based on the three pillars of the energy trilemma: energy security, energy equity (affordability/accessibility), and environmental sustainability. Last year Colombia ranked 24 out of 129 countries and received a score of AAC for the three dimensions of the trilemma. (More info on: http://bit.ly/1fsHcOr)

World Energy Council’s Executive Assembly

  • 17.00 hrs: Announcement of the winning country to host the 24th World Energy Congress in 2019. The announcement will follow a vote to be held during the World Energy Council’s Executive Assembly, with the race between Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Abu Dhabi, UAE.

 

Thursday, 23 October

World Energy Leaders’ Summit

  • 14.00 hrs: President Santos of Colombia will address the World Energy Council’s Energy Leaders’ Summit.
