New resilience report: Diverse new risks to energy security demand smart response

Energy systems must be smarter, not just stronger, to withstand the risks from extreme weather events, the energy-water-food nexus and cyber-attacks. The “Road to Resilience” series shows the evolution of these risks, their impact on infrastructure and identifies measures to improve the financing conditions and resilience of global energy systems to cope with these new challenges.

Energy security key according to 2015 World Energy Council Energy Trilemma Index

The World Energy Council launches its annual ranking of energy and climate policies. The 2015 Energy Trilemma Index registers overall improvements across the three dimensions of the energy trilemma. However, this year’s report shows that the challenges faced by countries to develop a balanced approach to their energy policy mean that only two countries out of 130 are achieving ‘AAA’ balance score.

New World Energy Trilemma Report says the energy sector wants to invest, but needs an ambitious climate framework, with clear emission targets and a flexible approach to meet different needs of countries to gain the confidence from investors if the essential investment target of $48-53 trillion is to be delivered. Five key actions to the successful transition to a low carbon energy system are identified.
