The Brazilian Committee of the World Energy Council (CBCME) is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation that represents Brazil in the World Energy Council. It has both corporate and individual members. CBCME works in conjunction with the WEC to promote access, availability and acceptance of energy through: publication of its annual report, Brazilian Energy Statistics; identification of energy issues and policy recommendations; advising decision makers in both government and industry; facilitating dialogue between decision makers, experts and civil society; and implementation of action plans locally and regionally.

Chair: Norberto de Franco Medeiros

Norberto Medeiros is Chairman of the Brazilian National Committee. He also serves as the Vice Chair of WEC’s Programme Committee. Previously, Mr Medeiros has been WEC’s Vice Chair, Latin American and the Caribbean; Chair of Programmes and a member of the Finance Committee. Mr Medeiros holds degrees in Electrical and Economic Engineering and an MBA in Energy Management. He has worked on projects for USAID, the World Bank and ESG, the National War College in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. During his extensive career in Brazil, Mr Medeiros has been an engineer at BNDES (National Economic and Social Development Bank); Head of the Economic-Financial Division and Economic-Financial Director of Eletrobrás; Coordinator of the Electric Power Sector of the Instituto de Pesquisa Econômica Aplicada; Visiting Professor, Fundação Getulio Vargas; and a consultant for various private companies in Brazil. He was also Financial Director and Chairman of the Board of LIGHT (Serviços de Eletricidade S.A.); Secretary of State of Mines and Energy of Brazil; Financial and Administrative Director of Nuclebrás; and Financial Director and President of FURNAS - Centrais Elétricas S.A.
