China Member Committee

The China National Committee aims to promote sustainable energy development in China, as a part of the WEC’s energy vision. As a member of the WEC network, the organisation is committed to representing the Chinese perspective within national, regional and global energy debates. The committee includes a variety of members to ensure that the diverse energy interests of China are appropriately represented. Members of the committee are invited to attend high-level events, participate in energy-focused study groups, contribute to technical research and be a part of the global energy dialogue.

Chair

Liu Tienan is currently the World Energy Council’s Vice Chair for the Asia region. He is also the Director of National Energy Administration (NEA), and Vice Minister of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). Liu Tienan has been Vice Minister of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) since March 2008. He is responsible for the regulation of the economy, industry coordination, and fiscal and financial affairs. In addition, Liu is in charge of the Bureau of Economic Operations Adjustment, the Department of Industry Coordination, and the Department of Fiscal and Financial Affairs. Prior to this, Liu Tienan was appointed working group office deputy director (at the Vice-Ministerial level) of the Department of Northeast Region Revitalizations of Northeast China and other old industrial bases, after working as Industry Department Head of the State Development and Reform Commission and Working Group Director in charge of coordinating the relocation of Capital Iron and Steel Company, among other roles. Liu Tienan has also served as the Economic Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Japan. He has a Master’s in Economics and a Doctorate in Engineering.
