The Armenia National Committee aims to promote sustainable energy development in Armenia, as a part of the Council’s energy vision. As a member of the Council's network, the organisation is committed to representing the Armenian perspective within national, regional and global energy debates. The committee includes a variety of members to ensure that the diverse energy interests of Armenia are appropriately represented. Members of the committee are invited to attend high-level events, participate in energy-focused study groups, contribute to technical research and be a part of the global energy dialogue.
Hakob Vardanyan serves as the Chair of the World Energy Council Armenian Member Committee, as well as the Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure where he has been since June 2019, following a year as the Deputy Minister of RA Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources.
Vardanyan has been engaged in the energy sector since 2016, having worked in several positions including Head of Investment Projects at Tashir Group, Deputy Director for Security and Control at Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC, and Director for Issues of Financial-Economic and Supply at High Voltage Electric Networks CJSC.
Previously, Vardanyan worked as Head of Risk Management and Insurance at RESO Insurance, Business Development Consultant at Bliley Technologies, Business Analyst and Project Manager at Constant Development, Investment Director at Helios Group and Risk Management Director at Golden State Bank. He graduated from the Armenian State University of Economics in 2011 and Pennsylvania State University in 2015, and has the qualification of Magister of Management.
Narek Apitonyan is a seasoned professional in the field of energy systems, with over a decade of experience in Armenia’s nuclear and electrical power sectors.
He began his academic journey at the National Polytechnic University of Armenia, where he earned a Bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Industrial Plants and Technology Complex in 2006. Demonstrating a continued commitment to professional development, Mr Apitonyan later pursued graduate studies at the same university, obtaining a Master’s degree from the Faculty of Energy in 2018.
Mr Apitonyan’s professional career commenced at the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, where he served as a Senior Engineer in the Main Control Centre from March 2011 until September 2024. During his tenure, he contributed significantly to the plant's operational reliability and safety processes.
In June 2025, Mr. Apitonyan was appointed Acting General Director of Electro Power Systems Operator CJSC, the national electricity transmission system operator based in Yerevan. In this leadership role, he is responsible for overseeing the stable and secure operation of Armenia’s power grid, driving strategic initiatives, and supporting the country’s transition toward a more modern and resilient energy infrastructure.
