WEC India aims to be the foremost energy think-tank of the country and the enregy sector. The organisation is truly representative of the Indian energy sector, and contributes to advancing the energy goals of India. Its mission is to facilitate review, research and advocacy of energy technology, policy and strategy; to provide a platform for dialogue within the Indian energy sector; and to collaborate with member committees worldwide to ensure long term sustainable supply and use of energy. WEC-IMC brings together high-level players in the energy sector together to forge a better understanding of energy issues with a view to identifying and implementing sustainable, effective solutions.
Mr P. Uma Shankar, a member of the Indian Administrative Service, has a Masters in Mathematics from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He also holds an M.Sc. in Social Policy and Planning in Developing countries from London School of Economics. He has a rich experience of more than 34 years in areas like housing & urban development, civic affairs, urban water supply & waste water disposal, rural development & cooperation, consumer affairs & public distribution, manufacture and sale of sugar, rural electrification and financing of power projects. He is at present Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Power spearheading an ambitious plan for rapid expansion of the power sector. Mr P. Uma Shankar has a number of papers and publications to his credit including “Enhancing Effectiveness of Cooperatives: Major Problems & Policy Implications” in Cooperative Perspective” and “Housing the Urban Poor: Problems and Prospects” in Nagarlok.
Shri Arup Roy Choudhury has been Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC Limited since September 2010, and has a career spanning over 32 years of outstanding contribution in the fields of engineering, management and leadership. He is the current Vice Chair of World Energy Council for the Asia Pacific and South Asia region. He became the youngest Chief Executive Officer of a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) at the age of 44 when he joined National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited in 2001 as Chairman & Managing Director. He is the Chairman of Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), the apex body of over 240 Central Public Sector Enterprises. He was awarded the Best Individual Leader of the Public Enterprise from Hon’ble Prime Minister of India in 2010. He also received the award for CSR and Responsiveness from Hon’ble President of India in 2010.
