Korean (Rep.) Member Committee


The Republic of Korea National Committee aims to promote sustainable energy development in Korea (Rep.), as a part of the WEC’s energy vision. As a member of the WEC network, the organisation is committed to representing the Republic of Korea’s perspective within national, regional and global energy debates. The committee includes a variety of members to ensure that the diverse energy interests of the Republic of Korea are appropriately represented. Members of the committee are invited to attend high-level events, participate in energy-focused study groups, contribute to technical research and be a part of the global energy dialogue.

Chair: Ki-Choon Kim


Mr Ki-Choon Kim has been Chair of the Korean (Rep.) Member Committee since 2009. He is also Chairman of the Korean Energy Foundation, Advisor of WEC Daegu 2013 Organizing Committee and serves as an Attorney at Law. Mr Ki-Choon Kim has had a diverse career with roles in both the government and the energy sector. Notably, he has served as Prosecutor General (1988), Minister of Justice (1991) and President of the Youido Institute of the G.N.P (2005). Mr Ki-Choon Kim graduated with a degree in Law in 1962. He then went on to obtain masters in Law and a doctorate in Law from Seoul National University, Korea (Rep.).

Secretary: Jongho Lee


Born in 1956, after several positions within Hyundai Engineering & Construction, including Vice President and Executive Vice President, Jongho Lee is now Executive Vice President in KEPCO. He is also representing the WEC 2013 Daegu Congress Organising Committee. He has strong commitment to the Korean Member Committee to raise public awareness on global energy issues in Korea and has made his utmost efforts for the success of WEC Daegu 2013 as the Secretary General of the WEC 2013 Daegu Congress Organising Committee. As a head of Hyundai Engineering & Construction, he directed sales, purchase and R&D of Power & Process plants over 30 years. In addition, based on his long-time overseas experience, he has contributed his profound knowledge of the energy field with the WEC, Korea’s sustainable energy development initiatives as well as the promotion of WEC Daegu 2013.
