The African regional activities focus on energy issues, such as energy access, energy scenarios, performance of power generation, potentiality of large scale hydro power, solar power, and trans-continental transmission grid to transfer power, even to European countries.

To facilitate these activities, the WEC community in the region has developed working level relationships with African Union Commission (AUC), African Energy Commission (AFREC), and Association of Power Utilities of Africa (APUA, or formerly UPDEA). WEC also works closely with the African Development Bank in the region.

The Africa Energy Indaba is the WEC’s official regional forum and is held in Johannesburg, South Africa, every February. The event hosts WEC’s regional workshops looking at energy access and energy scenarios studies along with highlighting the key trends in the region.
