Energy Ambassadors | Catherine Lagneau, CEO of BRGM

For the next ‘Energy Ambassadors’ meeting, an informal discussion forum with a female leader from the energy sector, our Secretary General Marie-Line Vaiani, and the Young Professionals Group (YEP France) will be talking to Catherine Lagneau, Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières (BRGM).

Catherine Lagneau will talk about her career (*), her interest in the energy sector, and her vision for energy transition and how to accelerate it in a balanced approach in line with the World Energy Council's Energy Trilemma (energy security, energy equity, environmental sustainability). A former student of the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, where she graduated in mathematics applied to finance, then trained at the École des Mines in business and public administration, Catherine Lagneau joined the Regional Directorate for Industry, Research and the Environment (DRIRE) of Lorraine under the aegis of the Prefecture in 2007.

In 2010, she furthered her experience of the Lorraine economy by joining the Regional Directorate for Enterprise, Competition, Consumer Affairs, Labour and Employment (DIRECCTE), which she left in 2012 to become deputy director of the Ecole des Mines d'Alès. Since 2017, Catherine Lagneau has held the position of Deputy Director of the École des Mines de Paris. She has also joined the General Council for the Economy at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Her responsibilities there include managing the Corps des Mines and monitoring careers, while also serving as ETI (medium-sized enterprises) ambassador to the Minister Delegate for Industry. Catherine Lagneau also contributed to the report on senior civil service positions submitted in 2020. She served as a director of Bpifrance from 2020 to 2023. On 13 July 2023, on the recommendation of the Board of Directors, Catherine Lagneau was appointed by ministerial decree as Chair of the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières (BRGM), replacing Michèle Rousseau. She took up her post on 1 September 2023. She has been a board member of EDF since May 2025.
