Women in Energy Ambassadors
Organised by World Energy Council France
On Wednesday, 20 May 2026, from 6:30 - 8:00 pm (Paris).
For the next ‘Women in Energy Ambassadors’ meeting, an informal discussion forum with a female leader from the energy sector, our Secretary General Marie-Line Vaiani, and the Young Professionals Group (YEP France) will be talking to Anne-Isabelle Etienvre, Chief Executive of the CEA.
Anne-Isabelle Etienvre will talk about her career (*), her interest in the energy sector, and her vision for energy transition and how to accelerate it in a balanced approach in line with the World Energy Council's Energy Trilemma (energy security, energy equity, environmental sustainability).

(*) Born in 1976, Anne-Isabelle Etienvre is a graduate of the École normale supérieure de Paris-Saclay and holds an agrégation in Physics. She also holds a PhD in particle physics, as well as a Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR). She has conducted research in particle physics and participated in the construction of major instrumental projects for CERN.
After serving on several scientific councils and committees, she was appointed in 2012 as coordinator of the Laboratory of Excellence (LabEx) P2IO (Physics of the Two Infinities and Origins), specialising in the physics of the infinitely small and the infinitely large. Anne-Isabelle Etienvre joined the CEA in 2003, in the Department of Particle Physics, which she took over as head of in 2014.
In 2016, she was appointed Director of the Institute for Research into the Fundamental Laws of the Universe (Irfu), a post she held for six years. This institute, with 1,100 staff, carries out R&D in the fields of subatomic physics, space, digital technology and the instrumentation associated with these fields (particle detectors, accelerators, microelectronics, superconducting magnets, space).
From 2022 to 2023, she served as Research Adviser to the Minister for Higher Education and Research.
From 2023 to 2025, she was Director of Fundamental Research (DRF) at the CEA. The DRF comprises 10 R&D institutes covering the CEA’s key fields and programmes, and brings together more than 4,000 staff. It oversees major projects under bilateral agreements or research infrastructure schemes, and is involved in more than 30 France 2030 programmes. With a strong international focus through strategic partnership agreements, the DRF is also deeply rooted in collaborative research, with 550 active patents and 38 active start-ups. Anne-Isabelle Etienvre was appointed Chief Executive of the CEA by the Council of Ministers on 11 July 2025.
