The Global Energy Landscape – Trends and Market Realities

Organised by World Energy Council Germany, and Enerdata

On Wednesday, 24 June 2026, from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm (CEST)

The World Energy Council – Germany cordially invites you to participate in the webinar, “The Global Energy Landscape – Trends and Market Realities”.

The global energy landscape continues to be shaped by structural change, geopolitical shifts, and ongoing uncertainties: The expansion of renewable energies is progressing rapidly, while fossil fuels continue to play a dominant role in the energy mix. At the same time, electrification, new drivers of demand such as digitalisation, data centers, and electromobility, as well as varying economic developments in industrialised and emerging economies, are reshaping international energy markets and influencing both energy consumption and GHG emissions.

During the webinar, Géraldine Duffour, Senior Market Research Analyst at Enerdata, and Quentin Bchini, Head of the Research Department at Enerdata, will provide an overview of key developments in the energy markets of the G20 countries in 2025. What developments have most recently shaped international electricity, oil, and gas markets? How have energy consumption and the energy mix changed in major economies? What role does the accelerated expansion of renewables play, and how does this affect the global carbon footprint? Which of these trends are likely to continue in the coming years, and what are potential implications for economic development?

Ms. Duffour and Mr. Bchini will provide an exclusive preview of their article on the international energy market in 2025 from the global chapter of the World Energy Council – Germany publication “Energy for Germany”, which will be released on 8 September 2026.

Prof Marc Oliver Bettzüge, Professor of Economics, Energy, and Sustainability and Director of the Institute for Energy Economics at the University of Cologne (EWI). will comment on the results. Prof. Bettzüge is primarily concerned with fundamental institutional and economic issues of the energy industry and energy policy. Since 2020, Prof. Bettzüge has been a member of the Council of Experts on Climate Change in accordance with the Federal Climate Change Act (KSG).

The webinar will be moderated by World Energy Council – Germany's Executive Director, Dr Carsten Rolle.

The event will be held in English. No registration is required to participate in the event. Further information can be found on our website.
