BESS Mission 2026
World Energy Council Colombia, in collaboration with the US Member Committee, successfully delivered BESS Mission 2026 in California, bringing together 19 energy leaders from LAC to gain first-hand insights into large-scale storage, grid operations, and emerging technologies driving the energy transition.
From Sunday, 22 to Friday, 27 March 2026, in California, United States.

The Colombian Committee of CIER (COCIER) and the World Energy Council (WEC Colombia) are pleased to announce the successful completion of BESS Mission 2026.
The mission brought together 19 professionals and energy sector leaders from organizations such as JE Jaimes, ISA Energía, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, DI_Avante SAS, Federación de Cooperativas Eléctricas del Nuevo Cuyo, Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Este S.A., UP Sistemas, Sun Company, Celsia, Tesla Transformadores, Ectricol, and Magnetron, among others, establishing itself as a platform for technical and strategic exchange on energy storage and the regional energy transition.
Over the course of five days, the delegation conducted technical visits to leading organizations in California’s energy ecosystem, with the invaluable support of EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) as technical host from day one. The most notable visits included:
- EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) · Palo Alto
- CAISO (California Independent System Operator) · Folsom
- Tesla Energy (Megafactory Lathrop and Silicon Valley offices)
- EnerVenue · Noon Energy · Invinity (emerging storage technologies)
These visits enabled participants to gain first-hand knowledge of large-scale BESS manufacturing processes, real-time grid operations in California, emerging long-duration storage technologies, and the integration of storage with renewable energy in advanced electricity markets. Key aspects such as system reliability, operational flexibility, quality control, and maintenance were also explored.
COCIER and WEC Colombia extend their sincere gratitude to EPRI, CAISO, Tesla, and all the organizations that welcomed the delegation and shared their knowledge, experience, and vision for the future. Their engagement was instrumental to the success of this mission.
This BESS Mission represents another milestone in the joint efforts of COCIER and World Energy Council Colombia to advance the energy transition in Latin America, connecting regional leaders with global best practices and technologies.
