Dialogue on the Türkiye Nuclear Plan

World Energy Council Türkiye, in collaboration with World Energy Council United States of America

On Tuesday, 21 April 2026, in Istanbul, Türkiye.

The World Energy Council United States Member Committee was pleased to support the Dialogue on the Türkiye Nuclear Plan held on April 21 in Istanbul, in collaboration with World Energy Council-Türkiye and The World Bank Group. The session brought together government, industry, and technical leaders to focus on a critical shift in new nuclear, moving from ambition to execution. Discussions covered project delivery, financing, supply chain readiness, and the role of nuclear, including small modular reactors (SMRs), in supporting emerging demand such as data centers and industrial applications.

As host of World Energy Council United States, EPRI contributed a global technical perspective across the full nuclear lifecycle, helping translate international experience into practical, country-relevant insights. This dialogue also builds momentum toward the #WorldEnergyCongress in Riyadh, with EPRI Gulf playing a key role in connecting regional priorities with global expertise and collaboration.

With thanks to the speakers and contributors:

  • María Martín (Board Member of WEC US / Director at EPRI)
  • Okan YILDIZ (WEC Türkiye)
  • Mehmet Erturk, Secretary General of the World Energy Council Türkiye,
  • alongside the Turkish government representative outlining the national nuclear plan,
  • and EPRI experts Steve Chengelis, Xavier Jardi Cuerda, and Hasan Charkas, Ph.D., P.E., for their technical leadership across the sessions.

The engagement reinforced the value of early, structured collaboration across stakeholders to surface execution challenges and align on clear next steps. A strong example of the World Energy Council’s convening power in action, bringing the right voices together to support real progress on national energy priorities.
