Martin Abeles
Director of the Natural Resources Division, UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN ECLAC)Martín Abeles is the Director of the Natural Resources Division at ECLAC, where he has worked since 2009. From 2014 to 2024, he served as Director of ECLAC's Office in Argentina. He holds a degree in Economics from the National University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and a Ph.D. in Economics from The New School University in New York. His expertise and publications focus on macroeconomics, development economics, and natural resources. He has been a researcher in the Economics and Technology Area at the Argentine headquarters of the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO), Research Director at the Center for Economics and Finance for Development in Argentina (CEFID-AR) and held various positions at the Argentine Ministry of Finance, including Undersecretary of Economic Programming from 2006 to 2008 and Deputy Minister from 2008 to 2009. He is an associate editor of the Review of Keynesian Economics (ROKE) and a Professor of Development Economics at the National University of San Martín (UNSAM) in Argentina.
