Christoph Frei meets with Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General

Dr Christoph Frei, the World Energy Council's Secretary General,  met with Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General, on Friday, 10 February at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

At the meeting Christoph Frei presented a letter on behalf of WEC Members and Officers formally supporting the UN's "International Year of Sustainable Energy for All". He also offered the WEC's collaboration to facilitate the development of the UN's roadmap to deliver its energy and sustainable development goals.

Mr Ban explained that sustainable development is the number one priority for the UN, and energy plays a fundamental role in meeting development challenges.  He went on to praise the World Energy Council for its leadership in the energy sector.

Mr Ban and Dr Frei agreed that the UN and WEC would continue to work together to build processes for closer engagement. Dr Frei also invited the UN Secretary General to address the World Energy Congress in Daegu next year.
