Global challenge to define the role of citizens in energy transition

14th February 2020

Here at the World Energy Council we recognise the opportunity and urgent need to humanise energy transition. We are reaching out to engage a broader community, including those impacted by transition, and are addressing the social impacts of an accelerating transition and deeper decarbonisation. Only by working at the human-level, embracing a broader community and addressing the social impacts agenda, will it be possible to achieve and sustain the breakthrough performance required for fast, clean and just/socially inclusive global energy transition.

The World Energy Council is working with Omdena, a collaborative platform for building AI solutions to real-world problems through global collaboration, to launch a global challenge to understand how citizens of the world perceive their role within the energy transition. The Council will measure and track public sentiment on emerging issues relating to the social impacts of accelerating energy transition and progressing decarbonisation of the whole economy. This challenge aims to increase awareness of potential social barriers and unexpected risks to energy transition.
