Shiv Vashisht

Shiv Vashisht is the Director of Communications & Engagement at the World Energy Council. With 20 years of experience leading strategic communications in complex international environments, including at the United Nations Climate Change secretariat (UNFCCC) and the secretariat of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Shiv has built and delivered global communications and engagement strategies around some of the world’s most politically sensitive issues. 

Most recently, at UNFCCC, Shiv led a multilingual communications team supporting four UN Climate Conferences (COP27–30), helping to shape international narratives around climate ambition, climate finance and the transition away from fossil fuels. Shiv worked closely with the UNFCCC Executive Secretary and COP Presidencies on strategic positioning, reputational risk and stakeholder engagement during highly sensitive negotiations involving governments, business leaders, civil society and international media. 

Drawing on his earlier career in international journalism, including at Al Jazeera English, Shiv has developed a particular strength in translating highly technical and politically complex issues into compelling narratives that resonate across diverse audiences and cultures. He has led communications strategies with global reach (2 billion+ worldwide) across media, digital and executive platforms, while ensuring consistency of messaging and alignment between leadership, policy and operational teams. 

Beyond climate diplomacy, Shiv's earlier work at the OSCE deepened his experience in international stakeholder engagement, strategic media relations and executive communications across politically sensitive environments. He has supported senior leadership engagement at high-level international events including briefings to the UN Security Council and the Munich Security Conference, advised on communications around conflict and democratic governance issues, and worked closely with multinational stakeholders across Europe, Central Asia and North America.
