SAVE THE DATE: IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON THE ELECTRICITY SECTOR AND BUSINESS STRATEGIES

Organised by Future Energy Leaders Dominican Republic and World Energy Council Dominican Republic.

On Thursday, 26 June 2025.

The impacts of climate change, such as rising sea levels, extreme events, and high temperatures, threaten the infrastructure of the electricity sector, putting the reliability of supply at risk and generating significant economic losses. The reduction in rainfall and the increase in temperatures decrease the availability of water for cooling and generation processes, affecting both thermal and renewable production, whose efficiency is also compromised by changes in natural resources, such as long periods of drought, irregularity in water catchment, alterations in management, etc. speed and temporality of the winds, as well as impacts on solar radiation due to high cloud cover. To face these challenges, it is essential to understand the phenomenon in depth and adopt adaptation and resilience strategies that guarantee the sustainability of the energy sector in the face of an increasingly complex future.
