Energy in Transition – Global Trends and Perspectives

Organised by World Energy Council Germany

On Tuesday, 17 June 2025, from 8:30 am to 10:00 am.

In recent years, the global energy world has been marked by a variety of upheavals and uncertainties: the COVID-19 pandemic, above-average energy price increases, supply chain bottlenecks, trade conflicts, changes of government in many G20 countries and a global increase in geopolitical tensions. These had an impact not only on the economic development of many countries but also on global energy consumption and the pace of the energy transition.

In a webinar, Géraldine Duffour, Senior Market Research Analyst at Enerdata, and Quentin Bchini, Head of Research Department at Enerdata, will take a look at current trends in the international energy market. What were the key developments in the global power, oil and gas sector in 2024? How did these affect the global CO2 balance? Which country recorded the largest increase in renewable energy capacities? Which of these developments are likely to continue in the future? And what influence does this have on global economic growth?

During the webinar, Ms. Duffour and Mr. Bchini will give an exclusive preview of their contribution to the international energy market in 2024 from the global chapter of the World Energy Council's publication "Energy for Germany" (EfD), which will be published on July 10, 2025.

The results will be commented on and classified by Dr. Sabrina Schulz, an expert in energy, climate and security policy. Ms. Schulz has been the German Director of the European Initiative for Energy Security (EIES) since January 2025. She is also an Associate Fellow at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) and Adjunct Professor at the Hertie School, where she teaches on climate and energy policy. The webinar will be moderated by World Energy Council Managing Director Dr. Carsten Rolle.

The webinar will be held in English.
