The 23rd World Energy Congress was covered largely positively by such a diverse array of top-tier international and Turkish national media in part due to an impressive programme of events and participation of high-level CEOS such as Bob Dudley of BP and Guler Sabanci, the 7th most powerful woman in the world. For the first time in the history of Congress the presence of four heads of states in attendance, as well as the significant Turkstream pipeline agreement signed in the sidelines of the Congress by President Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin, helping to strengthen ties. The project had previously been suspended amid tensions between the two countries.
