New Leadership for Performance of Generating Plant Knowledge Network

 

 

11 August 2015: B. Prasada Rao, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, India, has been appointed Leader of the World Energy Council Performance of Generating Plant, PGP, Knowledge Network. Mr Rao is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, INAE, and brings a range of power engineering and managerial skills to the PGP Knowledge Network.

Mr Rao will be supported by two Vice Chairs who bring great expertise: Nathalie Mendoza, Head of Statistics at EDF, France who has special responsibility for Europe and Africa and Scott Stallard, Vice President, Black & Veatch Energy, USA with special responsibility for North America, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Mr Rao said: “The difference between just operating a power plant and operating it in a competitive market environment is huge.  Bearing in mind that each power plant is different, the PGP Knowledge Network brings together examples of best practice from different countries and operating conditions. This work is strongly supported by the Global Electricity Initiative and the World Energy Council database of plant key performance indicators."

Commenting on the appointment of Mr Rao, Christoph Frei, the World Energy Council Secretary General said: “Mr Rao brings a wealth of experience which will help companies improve performance and ultimately improve their balance sheets leaving more room for investment in the energy transition.”

The PGP Knowledge Network provides the concepts and tools for power plant performance improvement programmes worldwide. In addition, the Knowledge Network runs a key performance indicators database and examines the issues as the market around the world evolves and the growing role of volatile renewable energy sources from generation to integration in electricity grids. The PGP Knowledge Network is supporting the Global Electricity Initiative as a first step in bringing together all World Energy Council electricity focused activities together under a single umbrella of the Global Electricity Initiative in order to facilitate better exchange of information and thereby better practice implementation.
