Siemens Energy Joins Hydrogen Global Charter

London – 21 September 2020 – The World Energy Council is pleased to announce that Siemens Energy has joined the Hydrogen Global community.

Siemens Energy is deeply engaged in promoting and developing projects and technologies to produce green hydrogen. Their expertise in hydrogen-powered turbines, either through co-firing or complete displacement of natural gas, enables low-carbon or even carbon-free power solutions and reflects their commitment to working toward a better, faster and successful energy transition.

Hydrogen Global was launched in 2019 by the World Energy Council as a platform to promote the deployment of clean hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels. Stemming from the Council’s unparalleled global network of energy experts, Hydrogen Global assembles projects, programmes, and organisations working with hydrogen to raise awareness of the technology across the wider energy community. Hydrogen Global empowers experts to share knowledge and best practice on hydrogen and develop insights to ensure their projects succeed.

The CTO of Siemens Energy, Vinod Philip, said: “Using renewable electrical energy like wind or solar power to decarbonize energy across all sectors unlocks enormous environmental and business benefits. Green hydrogen is at the heart of this sector coupling approach, allowing to decarbonize sectors beyond power generation like industry and mobility whose electrification will come to its limits. We are excited to align with the World Energy Council's Hydrogen Global charter and push forward hydrogen technology in support of the future energy transition.”

Dr Angela Wilkinson, Secretary General of the World Energy Council said: “We are delighted to welcome Siemens Energy as the newest signatory of the Hydrogen Global charter. Siemens has long demonstrated a commitment to educating the business community, policy makers, innovators and investors about the importance of clean hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels and their many uses in global energy transition. Its commitment and support are invaluable as we trigger the demand pull which is now essential for developing regional and global value chains, and create a level playing field open to emerging economies who have yet to enter the new hydrogen games.”
