The 2013 WEC Daegu Organising Committee and the World Energy Council today announced that among the latest senior industry figures to be confirmed to speak at this year’s World Energy Congress are the world’s major regional development banks.  Senior representatives from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and the World Bank will share their unique insights into the investment required to deliver the world's growing energy needs.

Among the financial spokespeople at the World Energy Congress:

  • Ahmad Mohamed Ali Al Madani, President, Islamic Development Bank Group
  • Enrique Garcia, President & CEO, CAF – Development Bank of Latin America

  • S. Vijay Iyer, Director, Sustainable Energy Department, World Bank

The World Energy Congress will address the theme “Securing Tomorrow’s Energy Today”, with delegates discussing how to overcome one of the most pressing global issues. The energy trilemma, the WEC framework that groups these issues, examines how access to energy supplies can be broadened to communities around the world in a secure, sustainable and environmentally sensitive manner.

Bringing together senior representatives from across the energy finance community will inform this crucial debate with their expert insight and help ensure that the sector continues to play a leading role in securing the world's energy future.

Cho Hwan-eik, Chair of the Organising Committee of WEC Daegu 2013, said: “Finance plays a crucial role in making sure the right investments in the energy sector are made that bring the greatest benefits in terms of both social access and sustainability. As a result, it is gratifying to see that the heads of all the world’s major regional development banks have agreed to discuss this vital issue at WEC Daegu  2013.”

Christoph Frei, Secretary General of the World Energy Council, added: “Energy has never been higher up the global agenda and the broad range of expertise that our speakers will bring to Daegu reflects the call to action across many fronts.  Development finance has a pivotal role to play in delivering a broader, more capable and better value infrastructure, which will increase access and enable energy provision to be more adaptable to prevailing trends in future.”
