Anne-Isabelle Etienvre

Anne-Isabelle Etienvre is graduated from the École normale supérieure de Paris-Saclay and holds an agrégation in physics. She also holds a Ph.D. in particle physics and an accreditation to direct research.
She has conducted research in particle physics and participated in the development of major instrumentation projects for CERN.
Anne-Isabelle Etienvre joined the CEA in 2003 in the Department of Particle Physics, which she headed beginning in 2014.
In 2016, she was appointed director of the Institute for Research on the Fundamental Laws of the Universe (Irfu), a position she held for six years. This institute conducts R&D in the fields of subatomic physics, space science, digital technology, and the instrumentation associated with these fields (particle detectors, accelerators, microelectronics, superconducting magnets, and space technology).
From 2022 to 2023, she served as research advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Research.
From 2023 to 2025, she served as Director of Fundamental Research (DRF) at the CEA. The DRF comprises 10 R&D institutes covering the CEA’s key fields and programs.
Anne-Isabelle Etienvre was appointed General Administrator of the CEA by the Council of Ministers on July 11, 2025.
The CEA is a public research organisation whose mission is to contribute to the scientific, technological and industrial sovereignty of France and Europe in four key areas: low-carbon energy, digital technology, future medicine, and defence and security, by drawing on excellence in fundamental research.
