White Papers are a new series of working papers developed by the World Energy Council. They facilitate strategic sharing of knowledge between Council members, energy stakeholders and policy shapers in a fast-paced era of disruptive change. The views expressed serve as basis for discussion and to inform the World Energy Council’s Strategic and Perspective studies along with events and our members.
The papers are developed by the World Energy Council usually in collaboration with a project partner and with the support of our Future Energy Leaders. The papers do not reflect the opinion of the global World Energy Council’s network.

The developing role of blockchain

Produced in collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), this White Paper looks at the potential of Blockchain Technology for the energy sector. Although blockchain is gaining wide-spread acknowledgement and use in the sector, there are still a number of uncertainties surrounding the technology and a combination of technological, regulatory and other practical challenges could stall its growth.
