Young Professional in Energy Management, EU

Akylbek Bakytov is an energy transition professional from the Kyrgyz Republic working at the intersection of modelling, governance and reform in emerging economies. He contributes to the EU-funded Sustainable Energy Connectivity in Central Asia project, where he develops analytical tools supporting power sector planning, renewable integration and regional energy connectivity. His work translates system-level modelling into structured policy dialogue, helping governments address reliability risks, investment trade-offs and long-term energy transformation. He has also worked with the United Nations and German Development Cooperation on public investment analysis, institutional diagnostics and development strategy implementation, and previously served as one of the Kyrgyz Republic’s first SDG Youth Ambassadors. As a John Smith Trust Fellow, he engages with UK-based policy networks and international experts to strengthen reform-oriented approaches to energy transition, further advancing evidence-based leadership in emerging economies.
