Begonia Gutiérrez Figueroa

Begonia Gutierrez Figueroa is a Spanish energy professional based in Copenhagen, with over five years of experience in renewable energy, international cooperation, and energy transition policy. She currently works as a Consultant on Global Energy Partnerships at the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), where she manages two flagship global initiatives: the Alliance for Industry Decarbonization (AFID) and the Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (UNEZA), collectively engaging over 170 industry actors, electricity utilities, and public institutions across more than 20 countries. Prior to IRENA, Begonia worked at the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre, where she coordinated the implementation of a €7.5 million NDC Action Project and translated national climate commitments into concrete action. She holds a Master's degree in Environmental Economics from the University of Copenhagen and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Complutense University of Madrid. She is co-author of several publications on grid infrastructure, energy storage, sustainability, and decarbonization. Her dream is to inspire the next generation of energy professionals, amplifying the diverse voices she has encountered across AFID and UNEZA, from utilities to industry leaders, across continents and sectors, promoting a just and effective energy transition.
