Green Hydrogen Project Engineer, Masdar

As a Green Hydrogen Project Engineer at Masdar, Hager Abunahwa contributes to national-scale initiatives under the UAE’s National Hydrogen Strategy, including the country’s first green hydrogen steelmaking facility. Her work focuses on integrating green hydrogen to decarbonize some of the world’s hardest-to-abate sectors, including heavy industry, shipping, and aviation, and to advance low-carbon solutions across industrial systems. Hager brings a perspective that bridges technical work and policy, shaped by her experience across energy projects and initiatives. She has contributed to discussions at global forums such as the UN Climate Change Conferences, New York Climate Week, and the IRENA Assembly, sharing insights on sustainable energy and industrial decarbonization. Recognized for advancing women’s leadership in the energy transition, Hager is a Fellow of the Atlantic Council Women Leaders in Energy and Climate program and a WiSER Pioneer. She actively contributes to policy dialogues and initiatives that promote sustainability, inclusive energy solutions, and the empowerment of women in the sector.
