Dr. Nicolás Federico Goycoechea Freire is a waste-to-energy and sustainability professional working at the intersection of academia, industry, and regulatory implementation. He is an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at Universidad de la República (Uruguay) and serves as Scheme Manager for the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) program at an accredited certification body. His work focuses on corporate greenhouse gas accounting, life cycle assessment for industrial decision-making, and work with sustainability schemes aligned with the European Union's Renewable Energy Directive (RED III). Nicolás has led the first third-party-certified corporate greenhouse gas inventory in Uruguay under ISO 14064-1. He contributes to energy sustainability through his participation in Uruguay's National Program for Future Energy Leaders and his academic role in international cooperation projects on topics such as hydrogen and renewable energy, promoting circular approaches that transform waste into energy vectors such as biogas. Through his academic and professional roles, he seeks to establish links among scientific knowledge, practical application, and regulatory frameworks to promote sustainable energy solutions.
