Sharmila Patel has been working in the Chairman and Managing Director’s Secretariat at NTPC Limited, India’s largest integrated power utility. She supports senior leadership through research-driven analysis, strategic insights, and preparation of communication material that contributes to decision-making on energy transition, sustainability, and evolving sectoral priorities. Born in a remote Indian village and belonging to an agriculture-dependent family, Sharmila has observed how climate variability affects agricultural productivity and livelihoods. This has shaped her understanding of the link between reliable energy access, climate resilience, and community well-being. They affirm her belief that the energy transition must remain inclusive and human-centric to create meaningful and lasting impact. She holds a postgraduate qualification in Energy Management. Her professional contributions include drafting the first version of a thought-leadership article published in The Financial Express on climate-friendly waste utilisation and supporting international award nominations that positioned NTPC’s leadership among the finalists for global energy awards. Earlier, she worked with GE Power as a hydro turbine component designer. She has strengthened her understanding of sustainable business practices through certifications in ESG risks and public relations.
